Good Samaritans confronted Nicholas Berger after police said he attempted to drag an employee out of the High Desert Museum.

BEND, Ore. (KABC) -- Terrifying surveillance video shows Good Samaritans confronting a large man with a knife who was attempting to drag a woman out of a museum in Bend, Oregon.

The man could be seen dragging the High Desert Museum employee across the floor, threatening to kill her on May 31.

Police said the man, 36-year-old Nicholas Berger, had recently moved to Bend and did not know the victim.

Four courageous bystanders confronted Berger at the entranceway, risking their own lives to convince him to let the woman go.

The woman fled back into the museum as Berger left the building.

Minutes later, Berger was confronted by an Oregon State trooper who shot and killed him. Officials stated the trooper first attempted to taser Berger.

Investigators were still trying to determine a motive behind the attack.
