NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A surveillance camera caught the frightening moments when an intruder tried to break into a North Hollywood home, at one point ramming a bench into a window.

The incident happened on the 5200 block of Cleon Avenue, where homeowner Jose Nunez has an extensive camera surveillance system.

Nunez was getting ready for bed after midnight when he heard his dog barking. Then, there was a pounding on his door with a man screaming, "They're out to get me." That's when Nunez told his wife to call the police.

"I come to my door and I say, 'Hey, go away, we've called the cops, I've got a gun.' He keeps pounding on the door, he's got blood on his hands," Nunez described.

He said the man refused to go away, and moments later picked up a bench and started ramming his children's bedroom window.

He ordered the man to put down the bench, which he did. The confrontation continued until police arrived on scene.

Officers took the man away in an ambulance. Nunez said he was told the intruder was likely in some sort of psychotic state.
