MELBOURNE, Australia (KABC) -- A man trying to take a short cut across the subway tracks nearly got struck by a train in Melbourne, Australia.

Video from the subway station shows one train pulling out of the station as the man climbs down to the rails.

He is apparently trying to save some time and cross the tracks to the other side of the platform, when another train pulls in.

The man scrambles out of the way and just barely misses being only a memory.

The incoming train was going about 60 mph. The engineer sounded the horn, which apparently alerted the man on the tracks.

The Melbourne subway system said there have been 143 incidents of near misses, like this one, in the last year.
