FAIRFAX DISTRICT, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An eight-inch water main ruptured at a busy intersection near The Grove in the Fairfax District Sunday morning, causing traffic delays.

The pipe burst around 6:45 a.m. at Grove and Ogden drives and left five to 10 residential and commercial customers without any water service, said Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Jane Galbraith.

Although crews managed to get the water shut off, the pavement appeared to be damaged. Police say one lane was closed after it was inundated between 3rd Street and Wilshire Boulevard. It was expected to reopen around midnight.

Meantime, a second water main break was reported in the 10500 block of Rose Drive in Whittier. The break caused about a 10-foot by 20-foot section of the road to buckle. No injuries were reported.
