WEST LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An hours-long standoff in West Los Angeles ended peacefully Sunday morning with one suspect taken into custody, police said.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of Brockton Avenue around 9 p.m. Saturday for a "shots fired" call.

"As officers arrived, they actually observed a male shooting a gun. They requested additional resources, established a perimeter, and at some point they observed this individual go into an apartment complex," said LAPD Lt. Andy Neiman.

Officers heard a muffled gunshot coming from one of the units during a search at the apartment complex. Police contacted the manager of the building, determined where the sound came from, and called in a SWAT team.

"During that time, they actually saw what they believed were expended shell casings from a gun at the entrance to this one apartment, so that further confirmed our suspicions that that was the right apartment," said Neiman.

The apartment building was evacuated. The SWAT team was eventually able to clear the scene just before 7 a.m. and detain the suspect, who was only described as a white male in his 30s.

Neiman said investigators are still trying to determine the man's connection to the shooting.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
