WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- A report about an alleged assault and attempted kidnapping in South Whittier Thursday turned out to be a hoax, sheriff's officials said.
Authorities received a call about an assault with a deadly weapon and possible kidnap attempt by a gas station near Colima and Telegraph roads in South Whittier shortly before 7:30 a.m.
The alleged victim, a 16-year-old female, told deputies that two men got out of a vehicle and started talking to her. She said words were exchanged, and the incident escalated to some type of altercation. As a result, she said her shirt was slashed when one of the suspects brandished a knife.
The teen told investigators the two men got away.
The incident remains under investigation.
