WEST COVINA, Calif. (KABC) -- An arrest was made Sunday following a bizarre hit-and-run in West Covina.

The incident began shortly before noon when two men were fighting on Serenade Avenue near Lucille Avenue, and one of them retrieved what was later determined to be a replica handgun, according to the West Covina Police Department.

A woman behind the wheel of a Prius intentionally drove into the two men, police said. Both men were injured and pinned under the car. Neighbors then lifted the vehicle off both men.

Investigators said the driver was the friend of one of the two men she hit. She put him in the Prius and drove off, but they were both caught a short distance away, according to police.

Another woman said the fight started because her boyfriend was jealous of the other man who had arrived in the Prius.

"I ran to break them up, and then the lady in the Prius she turned around the corner, and like she started going to them," Ashley Rios said. "So I started in front of her Prius, like I guess it was too late when she went over them, you know?"

The injured man found inside the vehicle with the woman was airlifted to Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center. The other man was transported by ambulance to the same hospital. Police said one of the men was is in serious condition, and the other was stable.

The woman driving the Prius was arrested and booked into the West Covina Jail on suspicion of attempted murder. She was not immediately identified.

Detectives were trying to determine the driver's motive.
