Woman dies of possible GHB overdose in Venice
A 44-year-old woman died from a possible overdose of GHB, more commonly known as the "date rape" drug, while she was at Venice Sunday morning.

VENICE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A 44-year-old woman died from a possible overdose of GHB, more commonly known as the "date rape" drug, while she was at Venice Sunday morning.

Authorities were called to the home near 23rd Avenue and Speedway around 4:40 a.m. after one of four people involved regained consciousness.

Paramedics revived a 28-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman. Both were taken to the hospital in critical, but stable condition.

A 44-year-old woman was transported to the hospital in full cardiac arrest and later died.

"Right now it looks like an accidental death, because it does appear that everyone used this drug voluntarily," Los Angeles Police Department Lt. John Radtke said.

Detectives believe the two women were roommates and had joined the men for a dip in the hot tub. Neighbors said they heard them partying into the night.

No one was detained and detectives remained at the scene.
