HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A female suspect was hospitalized following an officer-involved shooting at the parking garage of the Hollywood & Highland Center Friday morning.

The shooting happened around 1:45 a.m. Police initially responded to the scene for an "assault with a deadly weapon" call. When they arrived, officers found two women fighting inside the parking structure.

The Los Angeles Police Department says the suspect, identified as 47-year-old Diamond Vargas, was holding a bat and was combative. She was shot in the leg after allegedly pulling a gun on officers.

"That doesn't necessarily mean that they were aiming for the leg or not, the target area is generally the center body mass, and there are many factors that could come into play with why the suspect was shot in the leg," said LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar.

Vargas was taken to a hospital in stable condition. No officers were injured.

The relationship between the two women or what they were fighting about remains unknown.

The parking structure was shut down for the investigation.

Vargas was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer. She is being held on $100,000 bail.

This is the second officer-involved shooting at the intersection of Hollywood and Highland this month. On Dec. 5, a man with a knife was shot and killed by police.
