HIGHLAND, Calif. (KABC) -- A man and his 3-year-old son were wounded when a vehicle pulled up to them and opened fire in Highland Monday.
Authorities say the shooting happened in the 7600 block of Bonnie Street at about 5:30 p.m.
The victim, a 28-year-old father of five, and his son were headed out in their vehicle to pick up one of his other children. They pulled over to talk with some people who were standing alongside the road when the suspect's vehicle drove up alongside them, and someone fired several shots toward the victims and then sped off.
Both the man and boy were hit by gunfire, but they are expected to be OK. The victims got out of their car and ran into a nearby house to get help. They were treated and released from a local hospital, authorities said.
But exactly who shot them and why is the big question.
"There's no known motive, no idea who the suspects are," said Jodi Miller of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. "That's why we are asking for the public's assistance."
