COVINA, Calif. (KABC) -- A dog attacked and stung by killer bees returned home to his family in Covina on Monday after receiving veterinary treatment.

"Wolf" and his sister "Luna," both German Shepherd mixes, were attacked by a swarm of killer bees on Sunday, Nov. 16.

The Umphenour family adopted Wolf and Luna just over a year ago. Brother and sister, the two dogs were in their outdoor play area at night when the swarm of bees attacked.

Luna died from her injuries. Wolf was primarily stung on his face, swelling his eyes shut.

"One of our dogs was still standing, but he was in shock. The other one was in the dog house in convulsions," Heather Umphenour said.

Umphenour rushed the dogs to an animal hospital, but Luna did not survive. Wolf remained hospitalized in stable condition. He suffered hundreds of bee stings and was extremely swollen.

The dogs' owners came home to find the dogs covered by stings and surrounded by hundreds of dead bees.

Wolf was treated at the Inland Valley Emergency Pet Clinic in Upland.

The source of the bees has not been found.
