HESPERIA, Calif. (KABC) -- A dramatic horse rescue in Hesperia was caught on camera on Tuesday night.

According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, a person was horseback riding when the horse slipped and fell 20 feet in a trench near Elm Street and Alta Mesa Road at 7:49 p.m.

After several grueling hours, the horse was finally pulled out of a trench.

A vet was called in to monitor the horse, which was sedated during the rescue. Once the sedation wore off, the horse was able to stand on all four feet. It had some scrapes and abrasions, but seemed to be OK.

The fire department says the person horseback riding was not injured.
