Mar Vista woman offers $2,000 reward for her stolen dogs
Sue Downing believes a burglar stole her two dogs from her Mar Vista home. Both dogs have health issues.

MAR VISTA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Sue Downing is heartbroken. Her dogs, 12-year-old Pomeranian Penny and 3-year-old Poodle mix Spice, have been missing for a week.

Downing believes a burglar stole them from her house on Weir Street in Mar Vista. She made the discovery when she came home from work.

"There were lights on that I normally don't leave on. Then as I entered the bedroom, it was obvious someone had gone through everything," Downing said.

Downing, an oncologist at the Animal Specialty and Emergency Center, says both dogs have skin conditions and will get open wounds without their medication.

Penny has a heart condition and is mostly deaf and half blind. Spice was born with deformed hind legs. Both dogs are microchipped.

Downing has searched the neighborhood, in case the burglar let them go. She's called area shelters and looked online to see if the dogs could be up for sale.

"There's no news about the girls and it hurts. It really hurts," Downing said.

Downing has filed a police report with the Los Angeles Police Department. She's asking whoever took the dogs to surrender them at a police station or an animal shelter. She's offering a $2,000 reward.
