Nearly frozen kitten rescued off Denver streets, renamed 'Elsa'

A tiny kitten being nursed back to health after being found nearly frozen on on a Denver street this week may be down one of its lives, but she does have a new name. The cat was named Elsa after the character from the Disney movie "Frozen."

The kitten was found Thursday morning covered in snow. Denver has been experiencing freezing temperatures much of this week and when a friend showed Allison Baker the cat, she was convinced it might already be dead.

But Baker wasn't ready to give up on the kitten and brought her to the Dumb Friends League animal shelter. People there weren't sure the kitten was going to make it either.

"Her temperature was not even registering on the thermometer, so it was below 90 degrees," Dumb Friends League Health Care Supervisor Morgan Schneider told 7News Denver.

Shelter employees wrapped the kitten in heating pads, blankets and even kitten mittens. After more than an hour of doing everything possible to raise her body temperature, the kitten finally started to perk up.

The team at the animal shelter decided to name the kitten 'Elsa.' It seemed she was able to prove that the cold never bothered her anyway,

"We figured that would be a nice theme being from the 'Frozen' movie, but also since she obviously has a fighting spirit," Schneider said.

Once Elsa is fully recovered and puts on a little more weight, she will be put up for adoption.

"I'm shocked. I'm blown away. Cannot believe she's OK," Baker told 7News Denver.
