JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) -- A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who abandoned a Chihuahua at a dumpster in Jurupa Valley.

The 3-year-old dog was left in the dumpster in Rubidoux last Saturday during triple-digit heat. Riverside County Animal Services Officer Tiffany Fuller arrived on scene and whisked him away to Riverside County Animal Shelter, where he's now awaiting a new home.

"He just stared up at me, almost to say like, 'Thank god, someone's going to get me out of here,'" Fuller said.

Besides dehydration, the pup, nicknamed Oscar, was just fine. But it could have been worse. Trash at the complex is only picked up during weekdays.

"His tongue was deep red, curled up. He was panting very heavy," Fuller said. "I got him out and rushed him right to the shelter."

Workers said Oscar is in good spirits, wagging his tail and hoping for some attention.
