Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom addresses marijuana, gun control, presidential politics
On Eyewitness Newsmakers, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom discussed his ballot measures for stricter gun policy and legalizing adult recreational marijuana.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom discussed his ballot measures for stricter gun policy and for legalizing adult recreational marijuana on Eyewitness Newsmakers.

Newsom, a declared candidate for California governor, also weighed in on the presidential election. The Democrat is actively campaigning for Hillary Clinton, but also assessed Donald Trump's positions.

Proposition 64 would legalize marijuana for adults over 21. Newsom says he's not for marijuana, but he's against prohibition, "because prohibition is destroying more lives than it is saving."

The main component of Prop. 63 requires background checks for the purchase of ammunition. Newsom believes it's good public policy in the struggle against gun violence.

Eyewitness Newsmakers is seen Sundays on ABC7.
