Reported burglary suspect in custody after LA County chase

WEST COVINA, Calif. (KABC) -- A reported burglary suspect led authorities on a chase through Los Angeles County Monday night.

The chase was believed to have begun on the westbound 10 Freeway in West Covina. The suspect made his way onto the southbound 605 Freeway as it rained down on the red-colored SUV.

After going through the Santa Fe Springs, Bellflower and Whittier areas, the suspect got onto the 91 Freeway in Bellflower, traveling at normal speeds of about 60 to 70 mph.

It was unclear how many people were in the vehicle.

The driver continued traveling through Long Beach, approaching the 710 Freeway.

The suspect eventually exited Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach, where the vehicle went through narrow surface streets, with several patrol vehicles close behind.

The driver then got onto the eastbound 91 Freeway.

The driver exited the freeway on an on-ramp, going the opposite direction, and then got back onto the westbound 91 Freeway, still in Long Beach. Officers attempted a PIT maneuver but were unsuccessful.

A patrol vehicle attempted a PIT maneuver as the vehicle got off the freeway again. The driver then stopped the vehicle on Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach, where the individual put his hands up outside the driver side window.

The suspect eventually made his way out of the vehicle with his arms still up as officers pointed a firearm at him. He got on his knees and was taken into custody without incident.

No injuries were reported.
