LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Iconic Los Angeles-based lifestyle boutique Kitson announced Thursday it began closing its 17 locations throughout California, Oregon, and Nevada, as well as its online store.

Beginning in 2000, Kitson launched many local designers and brands and supported local manufacturing and charitable events.

Kitson stores became a magnet for celebrities and consumers seeking the latest in pop culture, "must have" apparel, along with apothecary, books, gifts and novelty items.

James Wong, the company's chief restructuring officer, said the company is in discussions with "interested parties" to preserve the brand.

Gordon Brothers Group and Hilco Merchant Resources were selected to begin store closing sales at all retail locations this week.
