LOS ANGELES -- Businesses are going all-out to lure shoppers on Memorial Day weekend, enticing them with big savings on everything from cars to clothes. Check out some of the biggest bargains.

The limited-time holiday deals apply to brick-and-mortar stores as well as online businesses.

DealNews.com says Memorial Day weekend is one of the best times to buy mattresses, and Macy's has a deal you can sleep on.

A two-piece queen set that normally sells for $689 is on sale for $279 starting Wednesday through Memorial Day Monday.

At Sears, a Kenmore front-load washer and a Kenmore electric dryer with the wrinkle-guard feature normally retails for $1,800. Starting Thursday through May 31, the price tag will be $550 each, which amounts to a savings of nearly 70 percent.

From appliances to automobiles - Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest times of the year for car sales.

Jessica Caldwell, senior analyst for Edmunds.com, says for the best deals, think small.

"We're talking about compact cars or sub-compact cars. They've been slow selling, so I think dealers and also automakers are anxious to get them off of dealer lots and get them into consumer homes," Caldwell said.

If you are shopping this Memorial Day weekend, many retailers, including Home Depot and Sears, are offering discounts for active duty military and retired veterans.
