Tradesy can make you cash from your closet

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Need some extra cash for the holidays? Your closet just might be a goldmine. You can sell your new and gently used clothes and accessories quickly and safely through an app on your smartphone.

Marken Greenwood is ready to make more room in her closet. She won't go so far as to say she's addicted, but for Greenwood, shopping is a passion.

"Oh, I love to shop," she said.

As a result, Greenwood's closet is stuffed full with items she no longer wears or never wore at all.

As an aspiring actress who hasn't hit the big time yet, her budget is a little tight. So Greenwood was really pleased when she learned about an app and website called Tradesy that could help turn her clothes into cash.

"The idea of getting to use some of my shopoholic tendencies towards a money-making proposition is a good thing," she said.

Here's how it works. Take a few photos of the unwanted item with your smartphone, upload them to the app with a description and Tradesy pretty much does the rest, including suggesting a selling price and taking the pain out of shipping.

"When someone buys something that you're selling, we send you a prepaid and pre-addressed shipping kit, so you don't even need to leave the house to ship," said Tracy DiNunzio, the founder and CEO of Tradesy.

One thing that makes Tradesy a little different from the other websites is that it authenticates every designer item.

"We offer 100 percent money back guarantee that it's all authentic designer fashion," DiNunzio said.

How much does convenience cost? Tradesy does take a 9 percent commission on the items that are sold - which DiNunzio says is less than similar sites.

For Greenwood, the benefits of Tradesy have come at a perfect time because she also wants to buy some gifts for the holidays.

"Making some extra money right now would be great," she said.
