13th annual Walk to Defeat ALS held in Exposition Park
The 13th annual Los Angeles County Walk to Defeat ALS is set to kick off early Sunday in Exposition Park.

EXPOSITION PARK, LOS ANGELES -- The 13th annual Los Angeles County Walk to Defeat ALS is set to kick off early Sunday in Exposition Park.

The 1.6-mile walk was set to begin at 11 a.m. on the 900 block of Exposition Boulevard.

The event was open to the public to help raise funds for the ALS Association Golden West Chapter in care services, public policy and research.

Known as Lou Gehrig 's disease, the fatal illness attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

ALS can strike anyone at any time. There is no known cause and no known cure for the disease.
