6-year-old girl saves Hemet home from fire
Elissa Sandate saved her neighbor's mobile home in Hemet after alerting her parents to the growing flames.

HEMET, Calif. (KABC) -- At six years old, Elissa Sandate is a hero.

Last month, she was playing on her swing set at the Sunrise Mobile Home Park in Hemet, when she noticed a fire near her neighbor's home.

Neighbor Kevin Sutherland was inside washing dishes, while waiting for his steak to cook on his grill outside.

"I turned around and looked and that whole back section was on fire," said Kevin Sutherland, who is disabled and isn't able to move very quickly.

Luckily, Sandate wasted no time, quickly alerting her mother.

"I yelled fire, fire!" Sandate said.

Her father ran outside, grabbed the hose and put out the flames.

Neighbors are now calling Sandate a hero. If she hadn't acted so quickly, a small fire could have been catastrophic.

"If it had got to the house, it would have been all over. These places go like cracker boxes," Sutherland said.

When asked if she feels like a hero?

She responded: "Yeah... because I saved the day."
