Autry exhibit focuses on American West photographers

GRIFFITH PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A new exhibit at the Autry Museum of the American West displays the work of a pioneering group of photographers who got together in 1932, calling themselves Group F/64.

The Bay Area photographers, including Ansel Adams and Edward Weston, did not use the soft focus that was popular in their day when they portrayed images of the American West..

"F/64 members together and individually really believed in the power of the camera as a medium for creating fine art," said exhibit curator Amy Scott.

The exhibit also displays the work of Richard Misrach, who worked in the 1970s, making large color prints that contrasted nature's beauty with environmental decay.

The Revolutionary Vision exhibit runs at the Griffith Park museum June 4 through Jan. 8.
