Art installation, 'Cabinet of Curiosities,' shows off optical illusions at Union Station

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An installation called "The Cabinet of Curiosities" has been set up at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.

People strolling through the transit hub's historic west concourse will find a giant wooden box pockmarked with seven tiny holes. Those who peer in may either be impressed or unsure of what they've seen.

The Los Angeles-based art curator who had the idea considers the box a "throwback" to the late 19th century.

There were seven artists who created the installation, and each person ranges in experience. Though all were faced with the same space to work with - 2 feet by 2 feet and 6 inches in height - they each created unique optical illusions.

The Cabinet of Curiosities won't be at the station for long - it's shipping off by the end of the month.
