Class of 1956 opens time capsule decades later
A time capsule, which was placed in a wall at a Pomona elementary school in 1956, was opened at a special ceremony Tuesday.

POMONA, Calif. (KABC) -- A time capsule placed in a wall at a Pomona elementary school in 1956 was opened Tuesday.

A special ceremony was held to open the capsule, which was placed in a brick wall at Arroyo Elementary School.

Members of the class of 1956, along with current students and staff, gathered to see what items were stored away in the capsule.

Inside the capsule was a folder containing newspaper clippings, a school roster and class photos.

"I think it was awesome. I mean, I drove all the way from Oklahoma City for this. It was just a great time," Rhonda McCanliss said.

She, along with her old friends, looked over the photos and remembered good times and old flames.

The only thing that was missing for McCanliss and her friends were the letters they thought they had written to themselves.

Another sixth-grade class will continue the tradition and place a 2015 time capsule in the same spot to be opened in 50 years.
