WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- Friends and family gathered for a candlelight vigil to honor the local figure affectionately known as Hollywood Jesus.

Kevin Short - who also went by Kevin Lee Light - died of a lung-related illness on Dec 13, although his death was just made public last week.

With his long hair and beard and flowing robes, he was commonly referred to as Hollywood Jesus or when in West Hollywood as WeHo Jesus.

He made many appearances at events like West Hollywood's annual pride parade and posed for photos with tourists and celebrities, and was just generally seen as a beloved personality around town.

Friends and fans brought flowers and candles to the vigil and shared stories about him.

"There was nobody like Kevin Short," said John J. Duran, the mayor pro tempore of West Hollywood.

"When I first met him some time ago I asked what's your name. Then I forgot it was Kevin because he just became Jesus."

Short's father, Dale Short of Pasadena, also attended the vigil and thanked everyone for honoring his son.

"I want to thank everyone for the love they showed for my son," Dale Short said. "He was a good person and I'll miss him forever."
