LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Our ABC7 Cool Kid for Thursday, Dec. 12, is Daisy Mata, who finds time for many causes.

"Every person counts, every volunteer hour counts and every task counts. Every little thing counts. Nothing goes unnoticed," Mata said.

Mata has found a way to turn her words into action at her school, Orthopedic Hospital Medical Magnet High School.

"It's called Viper Service. We're a community club. My teacher, Mrs. Masters, she came up with the idea of the club. When I heard about it, I knew I wanted to be in it," Mata said.

Mata and the club's activities include working at charity walks and clean-up events. She also has a special reason when the club visits children who have to be in the hospital.

"Spending a lot of time in the hospital takes some time out of their childhood. So, when people come and play with them, I think they'll be really happy because they gain some of that time back," Mata said.

She spends lots of time helping many causes, but she feels all that work helps her too.

"This is an opportunity for me to get involved in the community and help out and also to grow as a person," Mata said.
