LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Our ABC7 Cool Kid for Thursday, Nov. 6, is Lisa Sobajian, who takes on bullies the right way.

"Everybody comes from somewhere different, but everybody has this one similarity. Everybody just wants to be liked. We all just want friends," Sobajian said.

Sobajian has found that this common truth unites all students. Unfortunately for some, bullying gets in the way of that.

Now, as a youth ambassador with the Los Angeles Human Relations Commission, she's found a way to address this serious problem.

"I've been introduced to the city attorney and city councilmen. I have worked with the human relations department and all these different people throughout city government. That's how I've gotten my platform, where I can speak up and actually have people listen to me," Sobajian said.

Now, when she speaks with students and school officials, Sobajian sees results.

"They started realizing, 'Oh that's happening right now. I just saw that last week.' Now, they've realized that bullying is occurring at their school and that they want to be part of stopping that," Sobajian said.

When Sobajian sees someone who used to be a bully who is now changed, she sees the domino effect her work has.

"I felt great that they made that transition. I felt like if they now understand that what they're doing is wrong, then they can help other people make that transition too," Sobajian said.

Bullying - both in the classroom and online - is a growing problem, but there are those, like Sobajian, who are trying to reach out to them and meet the problem head on.
