LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Riley Douthit volunteers at the Christian Outreach and Action Mission in Long Beach. She brings food and a cheerful attitude to people who really appreciate it.
"They don't have a lot of good probably throughout their day. So if I just can make somebody laugh or smile in the morning, I hope that can at least help brighten their day a little bit," she said.
Riley has been helping here since she was in third grade. But, even as this high school senior gets ready for the next step in her life, she says she doesn't plan on stopping her involvement and work in the community.
"It's really important to me. No matter where I end up for college. I want to find something to be involved in to help out with," she said.
People see that Riley's charity truly comes from within.
"Riley shows this great smile. She comes in willing, wanting to help. You can come and do something. But you can also come and want to make a difference, and that's the key," said supervisor Dwayne Moore.
Riley sees her work as a way to give back to people who might feel left out of society.
"I want to help people out that don't have as much so that they can have a better life, and even just a better day," she said.
Whether it is food or just a smile and kind word, Cool Kid Riley Douthit truly serves her community.
