Fourth of July celebrations set throughout SoCal

PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- Dozens of Southern California communities are getting ready to host their Fourth of July celebrations on Monday, marking the 240th anniversary of the nation's independence.

The city of Torrance was planning its first fireworks show since 2010. The 20-minute show, which will feature a patriotic soundtrack to complement the more than 1,000 shells to be fired, was set to begin at 9 p.m. near the Torrance courthouse.

More than one ton of fireworks will reportedly be used at the 90th annual Americafest at the Rose Bowl's show, which is annually billed as California's longest-running Independence Day fireworks event. The show will begin at 7 p.m., and the first 10,000 people in the stadium will receive an exclusive LED AmericaFest wristband.

The fourth annual Fourth of July Block Party at Grand Park will offer free admission and run from 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The event will cover five blocks from Spring Street to Hope Street, between Temple Street and First Street.

Marina del Rey's fireworks show will be synchronized to music played over loudspeakers at Burton Chace Park and Fisherman's Village. It is set to begin at 9 p.m.

There will also be fireworks at Monday's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Baltimore Orioles at Dodger Stadium.
