LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- On National Peanut Butter Day, one local couple shares how the sweet and savory treat has changed their life with a simple "spread of love."

Zach and Valerie Fishbain never imagined that the homemade jars of peanut butter they gave as gifts at their wedding would turn into a business.

After some convincing from friends and family, the Fishbains created their own artisan peanut butter line out of their home kitchen called Spread the Love.

The spread features some unique ingredients, including cayenne, cinnamon, and agave, which Valerie Fishbain said are secret staples of her cooking.

The pair added that they enjoy the treat by spread or spoonful.

"We live on peanut butter - every meal," Valerie Fishbain said. "We put it on chicken...on bread. We'll eat it right out of the jar. We've given a whole new meaning to eating your profits!"

They're also working parents of two little girls. Valerie is a social worker for LA County, and Zach owns a Spanish-language marketing agency.

When the two are not working, however, they say they are going after their dream to share their labor of love.

The couple is certainly not alone as the average person consumes more than 6 pounds of peanut products a year.

Some other fun facts on National Peanut Butter Day - women and children tend to prefer the creamy variety while most men go for the chunky kind.

Peanut butter was created back in the 1890s by a St. Louis snack food maker.
