Play relocates after heckler causes stir
A run-in between a cast member and a drunken heckler couldn't keep one production off stage in Culver City.

CULVER CITY, Calif. (KABC) -- A production of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" is back on stage after it was cancelled in Santa Clarita due to an incident with a heckler who yelled homophobic slurs.

"I had a gentleman a couple rows back that decided to boo me the first act and then shouted some slurs at me the second act that were of a homophobic nature," said actor Anton Troy.

Cast member John Lacy said the heckling became offensive and unacceptable, so he walked off stage and into the audience.

"I'm a man before I'm an actor, and there's certain things I won't tolerate. I've stood up to bully's my whole and it was a no-brainer. I was going to go out in the audience and confront him," Lacy sad.

Lacy's confrontation got him fired from the cast and Troy quit to show support.

When the Actors' Gang in Culver City heard what happened, they offered up their space in Culver City and enlisted some of their own actors to complete the cast with only a few days to rehearse.

Thanks to the support of fellow actors, Lacy and Troy will be able to take another bow.

"People are excited and very excited to be here, and we're going to give them a great show, and show that we can stand up to something like this," said Troy.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the NOH8 Campaign, a non-profit group that promotes marriage equality and stands against discrimination.
