Residents fight to keep community garden in Boyle Heights
Boyle Heights residents said they could soon lose control of "Proyecto Jardin," a community garden they've managed for 17 years.

BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES -- Boyle Heights residents said they could soon lose control of "Proyecto Jardin," a community garden they've managed for 17 years.

White Memorial Medical Center owns the 1/3-acre parcel located in a neighborhood behind the hospital. The lease expired last year, and the group and hospital have not been able to come to an agreement about future management.

The hospital plans to have a thriving garden for the community, but it will be managed and operated by a different entity.

The group members do not want to give up and will be meeting with hospital leaders to come up with a different plan.
