Teens in foster care receive free dresses and suites for prom
Hundreds of teenagers in foster care received free dresses and suits for prom through Glamour Gowns and Suit Up.

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles Convention Center was like a scene right out of a fairy tale for hundreds of teens in foster care Saturday morning.

The children got to pick out brand new, free dresses, suits, shoes and accessories for their prom or other formal events, as part of the annual Glamour Gowns and Suit Up event.

Clothing companies donated to the event, which is produced in conjunction with the nonprofit Casa of Los Angeles.

Not only did the young ladies get the gowns of their dreams, they also got free hair and makeup.

"I got this awesome dress and then they did my hair and everything. It was just a really nice experience because there were so many people here volunteering and it's just nice to see how many good people there are," Mary, a Glamour Gown recipient, said.

Nearly 200 young men got to pick out suits and accessories which they can repurpose for job interviews.

To date, Glamour Gowns and Suit Up has provided formal wear to more than 5,000 young women and men in foster care.
