LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- It was a special Christmas Eve for those who needed it most in Los Angeles as the Union Rescue Mission grilled up some steaks for the homeless.

Cooks grilled up about 1,000 rib eye steaks on the roof of the organization's headquarters in downtown Los Angeles.

Rev. Andy Bales, CEO of the Mission, said the homeless will be able to enjoy a Christmas Eve dinner.

"We want them to have a treat. People experiencing homelessness have a tough time all year and we want Christmas Eve to be very special. A rib eye steak, a big baked potato, creamed corn and a small gift just to usher in the Christmas season with a wonderful dinner," he said.

He added that he wants people to have a special time, especially because the holiday season can be extremely tough for the homeless who may not have a family.
