Veterans keep vigil on historic Pasadena bridge to raise awareness
One of Pasadena's most recognizable landmarks is serving as a symbol for a serious concern.

PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- One of Pasadena's most recognizable landmarks is serving as a symbol for a serious concern.

Military veterans are keeping vigil along the Colorado Street Bridge around the clock, all to spread awareness about veteran suicide.

"If we can bring awareness, then maybe we have a fighting chance," said William Valenzuela, who walks the quarter-mile stretch of the Colorado Street Bridge for an hour at a time.

Wellness Works, a local veterans support group based in Glendale, came up with what they are calling "Not On My Watch," a symbolic gesture along the historic span in Pasadena.

"We care, and we want the community to let them know they care because we can't do it alone," said Kathy Lynch with Wellness Works.

Lynch says that more people need to talk about the struggles vets face when they return from the front lines.

The watch started on Monday, and it will continue 24 hours a day until Saturday morning.
