LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A Los Angeles police officer who was wounded near downtown L.A. over the weekend got a hospital visit from coworkers and Mayor Eric Garcetti.

The mayor posted a pictured with Officer Joy Park on Instagram Sunday night. Park and her partner were conducting an investigation in the Westlake District, when a suspect ambushed them and opened fire.

Park was shot in the leg, but she's expected to make a full recovery.

Garcetti thanked Park for her service and bravery. He also thanked those who've supported her during her recovery.

The LAPD Headquarters Twitter account said Park came to the U.S. from Korea as a teenager and learned English as a second language.

After attending Cal State Los Angeles, she joined the academy in October 2016 and graduated April 2017.
