LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Former Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda has been hospitalized, the organization confirmed Saturday.

The team said the 89-year-old Lasorda was "resting comfortably," but no other details of his condition were officially released. Eyewitness News has learned the hospitalization is due to an infection.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke about Lasorda and how he's loved in the town.

"He means a lot, not only to me personally, but to the coaches and the players and obviously the organization and the city. I consider him a friend and he's helped me along the way and supported me," he said. "To see him in the clubhouse and my office watching batting practice is always nice and we can't wait to get him back out here.

The news prompted an outpouring of support on social media.

On Twitter, Erin Escareno said she was "praying for the Lasorda family." Ollie James wrote: "Thoughts and prayers with Tommy Lasorda, hope he's okay."

In August 2016, the legendary ex-skipper required 12 stitches after he fell in Atlantic City.
