Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission to consider temporarily housing 2 NFL teams

EXPOSITION PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission will begin considering an amended lease with USC Thursday afternoon that would temporarily allow two NFL teams to play at the historic stadium.

The Coliseum, which is currently home to the USC Trojans, will temporarily house the L.A. Rams from fall 2016 to 2019 while their stadium is being built at the former Hollywood Park racetrack site in Inglewood.

The existing lease with USC only allows for one NFL team to share the stadium with the Trojans, according to L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, president of the Coliseum Commission.

Earlier this month, the NFL gave the San Diego Chargers the option of partnering with the Rams to share the Inglewood stadium.

If the two teams reach an agreement, the Chargers would then also need to play at the Coliseum while the new Inglewood stadium is being built. If the Chargers don't partner with the Rams, the Oakland Raiders would then be given the chance to move to Inglewood, which means they would also play at the Coliseum temporarily.

The closed session meeting is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday. It's unclear if any vote will immediately be taken.
