Subway announced its news partnership with former Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota with a bust made out of sandwich materials.

When the brand was looking for its newest spokesman, it happened upon Mariota, who was so much of a fan he could recite his favorite sandwich combo without flinching.

"You could tell it was natural to him," said Paul Bamundo, global director of sports marketing and strategic partnerships for Subway. "We love guys that are authentic and have a good knowledge of our product."

Mariota said he ate at the chain during his playing days in Eugene, as well as during his prep days in Hawaii.

"He made sure to tell us that he knew that our $5 foot long wasn't $5 in Hawaii," Bamundo said. The chain's promotion for the sandwich had the disclaimer that the price wasn't available in Hawaii or Alaska because of cost of materials.

Mariota joins a cast of many Subway endorsers including Robert Griffin III, Justin Tuck, Mike Trout, Clayton Kershaw, Russell Westbrook, Pele, Carl Edwards, Michael Phelps and, of course, Jared, who has been the main face of the brand for 17 years.

Mariota also has signed a shoe deal with Nike and an autograph deal with GTSM Sports Marketing out of Hawaii.
