Apps for prom-prep, gadgets for grads
Jonathan Novack shows us some of apps that can help with last-minute prom planning. Plus, the gifts your high school grad will really want before heading off to college!

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- While prom season is winding down, there are still many students searching for that perfect dress or getting their tux tailored. Smartphone apps cover just about every angle of prom, from your hair, to your budget, to your dance moves and (maybe most importantly) saving those prom night memories. However, for the grad who's gearing up for college, space is tight in those dorms -- so make sure you choose your gadgets wisely.

One of the most thorough apps for prom night is "Plan'it Prom." It helps you set a budget, layout a timeline, countdown to the big night and then save your memories in a photo gallery.

"Princess Hairstyles" boasts hundreds of step-by-step hairstyle and braiding tutorials.

"Tux Photobooth" lets guys snap a pic of themselves and try on different looks, from the type of tux, color of the vest, style of shirt and, of course, bow tie or neck tie.

If you have two left feet, or one of each and just want to improve your dance moves, "Pocket Salsa" and "Learn Hip Hop Dance" have easy-to-follow video tutorials. You could also use "Dance Lessons" to work on your Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and more. It gives you some free pointers, and then you have to pay about a dollar for additional lessons.

For the gung-ho grad, two apps will make your college search much easier. "Quad2Quad" is free, and lists almost 100 of the most selective U.S. colleges. Use it for your college visits and create customized itineraries, get college interview policies, and hours of operation for campus offices. Then you can use "All College Application Essays" to apply. The app's details state it's the only app with all the 2014-2015 college application requirements, including the application essay prompts - for more than 750 schools.

Finally, here are a few gadgets to help you make the exciting transition to campus a little easier, and more fun:
