COMMERCE, Calif. (KABC) -- A truck fire snarled the morning commute on the northbound 710 Freeway in the Commerce area on Tuesday.

The truck caught fire around 5:30 a.m. on the far left lane, right next to the center median.

Because the median and shoulder are very thin, all southbound lanes were shut down until firefighters arrived.

Crews were able to knock down the flames quickly and all southbound lanes were reopened around 6 a.m.

Only one northbound lane was open, creating traffic congestion in the area. All lanes have since reopened.

It was unknown if anyone was injured in the incident.
