ENCINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A car crash that busted through the center divider on the 101 Freeway at White Oak Avenue snarled traffic Friday morning in Encino.

The wreck happened at around 6 a.m. It was unclear how many cars were involved in the crash, but the impact broke off a large chunk of the cement median, causing debris to scatter across both sides of the freeway.

Two lanes going both directions were shut initially at White Oak Avenue. As of 9 a.m., one southbound lane was reopened, but traffic remained heavy on both sides.

Caltrans was working to fix the center divider.
