LAX expecting record number of travelers for Labor Day weekend
Let the holiday weekend exodus begin. Nearly 2.5 million Southern Californians will be hitting the road and boarding airplanes for the long Labor Day weekend.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Let the holiday weekend exodus begin. Nearly 2.5 million Southern Californians will be hitting the road and boarding airplanes for the long Labor Day weekend.

Officials at Los Angeles International Airport expect to see a new record number of travelers between Friday and Monday: 835,500 passengers.

"That's equivalent to the entire population of the 15 cities of the South Bay," said LAX official Nancy Castles.

The rule of three also applies to traffic, construction and holiday. Even with a moratorium on the modernization project this weekend at LAX, the airport warns passengers to allow enough time to travel around barricades and temporary walkways -- and expect a whole lot of people.

The total number of travelers expected at LAX is 7 percent above last year's figure of 780,716, according to the airport.
