SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- For the first time in decades, a commuter train rolled through Santa Monica on Friday, but you can't ride it just yet.

It was a test run for the Expo Line, set to open next year, linking Downtown Los Angeles to the Westside.

Joyce Jenkins takes the bus from Leimert Park to the Expo Line station. From there, she takes the train to the Culver City station. Then it's a bus to get to Santa Monica.

When she saw the Expo Line train being tested, she was all smiles.

"It'll be a dream come true," Jenkins said.

According to Metro, passengers will be able to ride the Expo Line to Santa Monica by March or April 2016.
