Dozens of flights canceled at LAX due to East Coast blizzard

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A record-breaking storm is barreling toward the East Coast, and it's throwing a wrench in air travel across the U.S. - including flights at Los Angeles International Airport.

At least 80 flights at LAX were canceled for Friday and Saturday, and several more were delayed. These numbers are expected to rise as the blizzard gains strength.

Airlines gave canceled 6,300 flights nationwide. The bullseye of the storm is centered around Washington, D.C., the location of most of those canceled flights.

"It is frustrating. I'd love to be back with my family. They're going to be there and get two feet of snow, and probably the power is going to go out," said Harry Lalor, whose flight home to D.C. was canceled at LAX. "There's nothing I can do to help them, except sit in sunny southern California and enjoy the weather."

Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights frequently in case they get rebooked for a different flight home and are not alerted by the airlines.
