New irrigation system helps homeowners save on water bill
San Fernando Valley resident Jeff Schwartz has cut his water bill in half largely due to a new irrigation system he had installed called AquaJet.

WINNETKA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- San Fernando Valley resident Jeff Schwartz has cut his water bill in half largely due to a new irrigation system he had installed called AquaJet.

"Last November was close to $800 for the two-month period. This November, it was about $450," homeowner Schwartz said.

The watering system is buried four inches deep and crisscrosses the yard. Because the system is underground, excess water is not being wasted watering sidewalks or through evaporation.

"As opposed to a drip system... ours is a pressurized system, so it shoots out and pushes out into the soil," said Rob Buff of Intelligent Irrigation, LLC. "You get total water uniformity below the surface."

The cost of installing the AquaJet is high, but may be offset by the savings seen on the water bill, Schwartz said.

AquaJet is one of the few underground systems that also works on grass and trees. That means less water so you can keep your lawn green.
