PORTER RANCH, Calif. (KABC) -- A heat wave moving through the Southland has brought record-breaking temperatures this weekend.

Los Angeles, Long Beach, Camarillo, Santa Barbara and Santa Maria saw new records for high temperatures on Friday. It was 90 degrees in Los Angeles and 82 degrees in Santa Barbara.

Gusts up to 40 mph and temperatures in the upper-80s and low-90s were expected all weekend for Los Angeles and Orange counties, valleys and Inland Empire areas. Beaches were predicted to reach a high of 84 degrees.

Temperatures will creep slightly higher over the weekend and may reach up to 20 degrees above normal.

"It's too early to have this kind of heat. When you think about summer coming, it's going to be hotter than this," Granada Hills resident Fred Ferguson said.

The public is urged to avoid heat stroke by participating in outdoor activities in the morning or evening, wearing light clothing and drinking plenty of water.
