Storm system headed for SoCal prompts high surf advisories

VENTURA, Calif. (KABC) -- A high surf advisory is in effect for Southern California beaches until early Saturday morning.

The strong surf is expected to create waves between 10 to 14 feet high and cause strong rip currents. The conditions may also cause minor erosion for some beaches.

The advisory was issued for Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego county coasts, along with Catalina and Santa Barbara islands.

National Weather Service officials said the biggest waves will hit northwest-facing beaches. The strong surf is being caused by a large storm system that is headed for many areas in California over the weekend.
