Strong gusty winds and low humidity heightened fire danger across Southern California Sunday.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A red-flag warning is in effect for Southern California mountain and foothill areas due to strong gusty winds and low relative humidity.

Many fire departments have deployed additional resources. Extra firefighters will be placed at selected neighborhood stations serving high hazard brush areas for an anticipated 24 hours.

"We're going to have over 110 additional firefighters on duty from the Malibu area, Agoura, Santa Clarita, the high desert and the foothills," said L.A. County Fire Capt. Brian Jordan.

The red-flag warning covers Los Angeles and Ventura counties, San Bernardino County and Santa Ana mountains, Inland Empire and Orange County coastal areas.

The winds were clocked at 69 mph in some areas. Strong gusts in the Inland Empire have also damaged at least one business and have created difficult driving conditions.

Highs on Sunday were expected mostly in the mid 70s across Los Angeles and Orange counties, Valleys and Inland Empire. The mountains will see temperatures in the low 40s. Expect temperatures in the low 60s in the high desert.

Wind gusts will reach up to 50 mph inland, and the mountains will see gusts up to 70 mph. The Santa Monica Mountains stretching from Los Angeles to Malibu to Camarillo will get the strongest winds after sunrise Sunday and through Tuesday morning, the NWS warned.

The San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys, as well as the urbanized coastal plain, will see peak winds after sunrise through the day Sunday. Downtown Los Angeles has its wind advisory in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

A tree toppled onto a car near Veteran and Massachusetts avenues in Los Angeles at about 3:15 a.m. Sunday due to the high winds.

The winds will bear colder air, as a "very cold air mass will filter in to the Antelope Valley from the east Sunday and Sunday night," the NWS warned.

The windy weather is expected to stick around through at least Monday.
